$5 Million Settlement for Woman Paralyzed in Auto Accident

After more than thirty-five years of marriage, 65-year-old Gilma Rueda and her husband Luis were just beginning to enjoy their retirement years. They were a very active couple and spent much of their time with their children and grandchildren.

The life they had grown accustomed to changed in an instant while Mrs. Rueda was riding to the airport with her son. Suddenly, another car cut in front of their vehicle on the Florida Turnpike. Mrs. Rueda’s son had to swerve to avoid hitting the other car. As he did that, the passenger side of their vehicle hit the shoulder of the roadway and started to roll. The car rolled multiple times, down an embankment, through a fence and into a nearby residential neighborhood.

As a result of the accident, Mrs. Rueda is a paraplegic and will never be able to walk or live a normal life again. She spent nearly two months in the hospital and rehabilitation facilities and now depends on family members to care for her every day.

Personal Injury Attorney David C. Prather represented the Ruedas in their case against the negligent driver. The case was highly contested because there was no physical contact between the two vehicles. Despite multiple defenses, Mr. Prather successfully argued that the defendant’s negligent driving was the sole reason that Mrs. Rueda’s son had to take evasive action, causing the vehicle to roll.

Mr. Prather obtained a $5 Million dollar settlement for the Rueda family to help cover the cost of the medical treatment that Mrs. Rueda will need for the remainder of her life.
