Court Upholds $11 Million Citrus Canker Award

West Palm Beach, FL (May 12, 2010) – The 4th District Court of Appeal has upheld an $11 Million jury award for Broward County homeowners impacted by the State's fight against citrus canker. The case involves about 58,000 Broward County residents whose trees were chopped down by the state in an attempt to stop the spread of canker.

In 2008, a Broward County Circuit Court jury decided the Florida Department of Agriculture must pay $11 million to Broward County homeowners as a result of the Department’s destruction of over 133,000 healthy residential citrus trees under the failed Citrus Canker Eradication Program (CCEP).
