A fatal incident on the morning of November 8 added to the tally of unrestrained passenger deaths in Fort Myers. A 26-year-old woman died in a crash that occurred on State Road 82 and Genoa Avenue in Lehigh Acres.
The sedan she was in veered into the grass adjacent to the road and eventually flipped over onto its roof. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Another passenger in the car was severely injured in the incident and rushed to a nearby hospital. The individual was identified as a 37-year-old Immokalee man who was also not wearing a seatbelt.
The investigation is ongoing, and it’s unclear what caused the sedan to swerve onto the grass. At this juncture, it’s unknown whether the man or the woman was behind the wheel at the time of the incident.
