By Lytal, Reiter, Smith, lvey & Fronrath

A 31-year-old man from Hendry County died Monday morning after his car collided with a pickup truck in Lee County, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. The crash occurred around 7:15 a.m. on Palm Beach Boulevard near Hickeys Creekside Drive in Alva.

Troopers reported that the man’s car was traveling west on Palm Beach Boulevard, east of Hickeys Creekside Drive, at a speed too fast for the rainy conditions. The vehicle crossed the grassy median into the eastbound lanes, colliding with a pickup truck driven by a 55-year-old Glades County man. The Hendry County man was pronounced dead at the scene, marking at least the 20th traffic-related fatality in Lee County this year. The driver of the pickup sustained minor injuries.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
