In Florida alone, eight people die and 49 people are seriously injured on the road every day. Unfortunately, two more individuals contributed to that statistic on November 1 when an accident in Davie took the life of one person and injured another.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Davie Road and Griffin Road in the early hours of the morning. It’s unclear as to what specifically caused the accident, but two vehicles were found in the aftermath of the crash in precarious positions.

One was located on the roadway with significant damage in the front, while the other was found well off the roadway in front of the entrance area of the University Pointe apartment complex.

The identities of each person have not been released, but it was confirmed that one passed away at the scene, and the other is being treated for their injuries.

This event and the many others that happen just like it throughout the state on a daily basis are the focal point of Florida’s Target Zero initiative. Just a couple of days after the collision, the Florida Department of Transportation and Florida Highway Patrol co-hosted a Speed Enforcement kick-off in Davie in hopes of motivating residents to refrain from driving at dangerous speeds which pose a danger to everyone on the roadway.

The goal is that through community outreach and data-driven activity, the program will positively impact the troubling roadway fatality and injury statistics plaguing our state. The initiative’s first phase will focus on the Broward, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, and St. Lucie neighborhoods.

As entrenched and invested members of the South Florida community, Lytal, Reiter, Smith, Ivey & Fronrath hope to see progress made by Target Zero to help keep our area safe. If you or someone you know is injured in a car accident, please feel free to call us at (561) 655-1990.
