A 53-year-old man from Delray Beach died after being struck by a vehicle while lying in the northbound outside lane of State Road 91 (Florida’s Turnpike) early on April 23, authorities said.
The incident occurred near the exit ramp for State Road 786. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the vehicle left the scene after hitting the man.
The front of the vehicle hit the man, and his body ended up in the safety gore of the exit ramp.
Florida law mandates that drivers involved in crashes stop and assist victims.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not released the man’s name or why he was lying on the road.
