OCOOPA Rechargeable Hand Warmers Recalled After Fires and Burn Injuries

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Shenzhen Street Cat Technology Co., Ltd., doing business as OCOOPA Direct, have announced the recall of OCOOPA rechargeable lithium-ion battery hand warmers after reports that the devices can overheat and ignite. This may result in product recall lawsuits. 

The recall affects approximately 1.5 million hand warmers sold online through Amazon.com, Ocoopa.com, Ocoopa.net, and Walmart.com. OCOOPA Direct has received reports of overheating incidents that resulted in fires, burn injuries, and the death of an 83-year-old consumer in San Diego, California.

Details of the OCOOPA Hand Warmer Recall

The recalled products are OCOOPA-branded rechargeable lithium-ion battery hand warmers. The affected models include:

• UT3053
• UT3056
• ZLS-118
• ZLS-118S
• ZLS-118D
• H01
• H01(PD)

The dual-sided hand warmers were sold in different colors and designs. They were typically sold in packs of two units that can be magnetically connected, along with a charging cable.

The rechargeable hand warmers contain built-in lithium-ion batteries and have a USB-C charging port, LED indicator lights on the hard plastic shell, and a silicone lanyard. The word “OCOOPA” is printed on the top of the hand warmers and on the product packaging. Consumers can find the model number and three-digit batch number on the underside of the devices.

The products were sold from September 2018 through May 2026 for approximately $15 to $60. They were manufactured in China and imported by Shenzhen Street Cat Technology Co., Ltd., doing business as OCOOPA Direct.

Hand Warmers Linked to Fires and Burn Injuries

According to the recall notice, the lithium-ion batteries in the recalled hand warmers can overheat and ignite, creating fire and burn hazards. OCOOPA Direct has received 1,480 reports of hand warmers overheating.

These reports include 15 fires and 350 burn injuries. One incident resulted in the death of an 83-year-old consumer in San Diego, California, in February 2026.

Consumers should stop using the recalled OCOOPA hand warmers immediately and contact OCOOPA Direct for a full refund. Refunds may be provided through an OCOOPA gift card or the original form of payment.

To receive the refund, consumers will be asked to:

• Write “RECALLED” on the hand warmer using permanent marker
• Submit a photo showing the marking, model number, and three-digit batch number through OCOOPA’s recall process
• Properly dispose of the recalled device

Consumers should not throw defective lithium-ion battery devices in regular trash, curbside recycling bins, or standard battery recycling boxes. Defective lithium-ion batteries require special disposal because they can create a greater fire risk.
