Joshua Tyree Ballesteros, 30, died early April 14 after his car veered into a canal on North Congress Avenue, authorities said.
West Palm Beach Fire Department responders pulled Ballesteros from his 2017 Ford Fusion and attempted CPR before transporting him to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he later died.
According to initial reports, Ballesteros’ car struck a guardrail, hit a tree, rolled over, and landed upside down in the canal. Witnesses reported the accident to law enforcement through two separate 911 calls.
Ballesteros, an off-duty West Palm Beach police officer who graduated from Palm Beach State College’s Basic Law Enforcement program in 2018, was a former collegiate football player at Florida Atlantic University and played on his high school team.
