A person was rescued from an overturned car that rolled into a canal in the early morning hours of August 6. The incident took place just west of Lake Worth Beach on Waterway Drive between Witch Lane and Dell Avenue.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue responders arrived at the scene and heard consistent knocks inside the car. They realized they needed to act quickly, and used extraction tools to remove the person from the car. Miraculously, this was done in under 10 minutes.
In order to verify that the individual saved was the only person left inside the car, authorities used a thermal imaging camera, as well as a helicopter from above the scene.
The identity of the person rescued from the car has not been revealed. The individual was transported to a local hospital for treatment. It’s unclear how severe the person’s injury was, or why the car ended up in the canal.
