teen critically injured in cooper city scooter crash

While riding a standup electric scooter on the morning of March 18, a 16-year-old boy collided with a Tesla Model X SUV. The accident left the teenager with life-threatening injuries, and he was transported to a local hospital.

The crash occurred at 9800 Stirling Road across from Cooper City High School and is being investigated by the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Early reports indicate that the SUV driver, only described as a 40-year-old, was heading east on Stirling Road. The teenager then entered the roadway but did not use a designated crosswalk. He rode into the path of the SUV and was struck.

The SUV driver remained at the scene to speak with authorities. It does not appear that speeding or substance impairment were reasons for the incident.

The teenage boy’s identity has not yet been released to the public.
