During the afternoon hours of May 5, an 84-year-old woman died after her car smashed into a community entrance sign in Port St. Lucie. Authorities arrived at the intersection of SW Town Park and SW Tradition Parkway when the incident was called in.
The woman was heading east in an SUV when she exited the main roadway with the idea of entering the community. She was taken to a local hospital, where she died of her injuries.
Earlier that day, an 82-year-old woman was killed in a car accident in Delray Beach. Beverlee Bearman-Reiter was driving south on Jog Road, when she wanted to make a left turn in her Fiat 500. As she attempted to do this, her car struck a Mercedes ES350 driven by a 30-year-old man. The front of each of the two cars made contact with one another.
Bearman-Reiter was taken to Delray Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
According to initial reports, speed and impairment did not play a role in the crash Bearman-Reiter was involved with.
