Now that you are home, be careful!
Now that you are working from home and perhaps have some extra time to take on a few projects around the house you need to be extra careful! Working with small machines and tools that you don’t use on a regular basis can be very dangerous. Make sure to follow all instructions and wear protective gear so you don’t hurt yourself. Even then, some of these tools or small machines which are not used regularly can be dangerous in unfamiliar hands.
Some manufactures try to put certain safety measures in place on their equipment to prevent injury to the consumer, and still, accidents happen. Lawn mowers, electric saws, hedge clippers or chain saws are examples of small machines that can cause a lot of damage if not used properly.
Here are a few tips:
- Make sure the machine has had regular maintenance. If it has not been used in a while, inspect it and before use, have it serviced.
- Refresh your memory by rereading the instructions and precautions in the manual. If you don’t have the manual anymore, check out proper use on YouTube or the manufacturer’s web site.
- Make sure you have a clear, uncluttered work area before starting any machine.
- Do not start a gas engine in the house or garage. Take it outside.
- Do not wear loose clothing that might catch on moving parts of the machine.
- Wear safety glasses or goggles. Gloves are also a good idea long as they don’t get in the way.
- Take your time. Don’t rush into a project until you have a plan and everything is working properly.
- Keep children and pets clear of the work area and any machine that is running or in use.
