woman killed in collision with garbage truck

A 73-year-old woman died after her vehicle collided with a garbage truck Tuesday morning in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, authorities said.

Margaret Zenga was traveling west on PGA Boulevard. According to a crash report from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, she stopped in the left turning lane at the intersection with Beeline Highway on a red traffic signal.

Deputies said that the garbage truck was moving northwest on Beeline Highway in the outside lane and had a green traffic signal as it approached the intersection with PGA Boulevard.

As the truck neared, Zenga, driving a 2017 Mercedes, turned left into its path. The truck struck the driver’s side of her car.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue responded. Firefighters had to extricate Zenga from her vehicle, and she was airlifted to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
