Ambiano Electric Pressure Cooker Recall Issued Due to Burn Risk

By Lytal, Reiter, Smith, lvey & Fronrath

Recall Number: 26-007

Product Hazard: The pressure-cooker lid can be opened before sufficient steam pressure has been released, causing hot contents to escape and posing a serious burn risk to users.

Recall Overview

A major safety recall has been issued for Ambiano electric pressure cookers with model numbers 93550 (KY-318B), 96775 (KY-318A), and 98527 (6L-PC). These pressure cookers, manufactured in China and imported by Tempo International (USA) Inc., were sold exclusively at ALDI stores nationwide between January 2016 and December 2019 for about $40.

The recalled pressure cookers were sold in six-quart and eight-quart capacities, with the Ambiano brand name displayed on the front and the model number printed on the permanent label on the bottom of the unit.

Reported Incidents and Injuries

According to recall reports, 11 incidents have been documented in which hot contents were expelled under pressure, resulting in eight severe burn injuries. These injuries occurred when the lid was able to open before steam pressure had been safely released—a clear product malfunction that creates a significant risk for consumers.

Consumer Remedy

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Ambiano pressure cookers. There are two options for obtaining a full refund:

  1. Return the intact pressure cooker to any ALDI retail location.
  2. Email Tempo International at serviceusa@tempo.org with:
    • A photo of the pressure cooker showing the cut, unplugged power cord, and
    • A photo displaying the model number and date code on the product label.

Legal Implications and Consumer Rights

Defective kitchen appliances can lead to serious injuries — particularly burns and scalds — which may give rise to product liability claims under Florida and federal law. Manufacturers, distributors, and retailers have a legal duty to ensure that products are safe for their intended use and to warn consumers of potential hazards.

Under product liability law, injured consumers may pursue compensation for:

  • Medical expenses and rehabilitation costs
  • Lost wages or loss of earning capacity
  • Pain, suffering, and emotional distress
  • Permanent scarring or disability

In cases where a defective product causes harm, legal claims can be based on design defects, manufacturing defects, or failure to warn. Pressure cooker cases often involve multiple liable parties, including the importer, manufacturer, and distributor.

If you or a loved one has suffered burns or other injuries due to an Ambiano pressure cooker or any defective appliance, you may have the right to seek compensation.
