Man in wheelchair dies weeks after Broward crash

A 72-year-old man, Willie Dukes of Fort Lauderdale, has died following injuries sustained in a crash that occurred on June 28, 2025, in unincorporated Central Broward.

The incident happened around 7:20 p.m. near the 1200 block of Northwest 31st Avenue. Dukes was on a motorized wheelchair when he was struck by a 2009 Subaru Impreza driven by 49-year-old Kervens Vincent of North Lauderdale.

Dukes was initially taken to Broward Health Medical Center and later transferred to Trustbridge Hospice Care, where he passed away on July 19. The Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office notified detectives of his death on July 21, and the case was formally assigned to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit the next day.

An investigation into the circumstances of the crash remains ongoing.
