Nine people died after an SUV crashed into a canal in Palm Beach County, marking one of the area’s most devastating incidents, according to Captain Tom Reyes of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred on the evening of August 5 when a 2023 Ford Explorer, traveling west on Hatton Highway, failed to navigate a curve at Southwest Connors Highway, hit a guardrail, and plunged into the canal. Of the ten people involved in the crash, only one survived.
Four victims were declared dead at the scene, while five others succumbed to their injuries at a local trauma center. Another individual is receiving treatment for serious injuries at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
