The Florida Department of Transportation, the Florida Highway Patrol, and other agencies launched “Operation Southern Slow Down” on July 15 to encourage drivers across the state to reduce speeds and enhance road safety. FDOT Secretary Jared W. Perdue emphasized the campaign’s role in changing driver behavior to prevent crashes and save lives. Speeding has been linked to nearly 10% of traffic fatalities in Florida from 2019 to 2023, predominantly among male drivers aged 16 to 25. FDOT urges drivers to plan routes, avoid distractions, and slow down in construction and school zones.
