A pair of bodies were found stowed away on January 7 in a JetBlue Airways plane landing gear compartment during a routine inspection. They were found after the Airbus A320 landed at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
In a statement, JetBlue said “The circumstances surrounding how they accessed the aircraft remain under investigation. This is a heartbreaking situation, and we are committed to working closely with authorities to support their efforts to understand how this occurred.” Via CBS News.
The plane made its final stop in South Florida just after 11 p.m. on January 6. Throughout the day, it had been in Kingston, Jamaica, New York, and Utah.
As the investigation continues, it’s unclear which location the two individuals entered the landing gear area.
The identity of the people found dead in the plane has not yet been released to the public at this time.
According to CBS News, it is standard protocol for pilots to walk around the plane before each flight, which includes an inspection of wheel wells. CBS News’ Kris Van Cleave believes the bodies may not have been in plain sight in the compartment, which could have prevented them from being found earlier.
