A devastating four-car collision on Friday evening has resulted in the deaths of two teenagers and left several others injured. The incident occurred just before 8 p.m. on June 20 in the 200 block of East Copans Road.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, 16-year-old Jayden Vico was driving a 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 westbound on East Copans Road when an 82-year-old man driving a 2021 Toyota Sienna turned left in front of him. The Mercedes collided with the Toyota, causing Vico to lose control. The vehicle flipped onto its roof, slid across the roadway, and struck a 2015 Lexus RX 350. Debris from the crash also impacted a 2021 Toyota RAV4.
Vico was pronounced dead at the scene. One of his passengers, 17-year-old Richard Joseph Grable, succumbed to his injuries three days later due to severe injuries sustained in the crash.
Three other passengers in the Mercedes—a 17-year-old female and two 17-year-old males—were transported to area hospitals for treatment. Their conditions have not been disclosed.
The drivers of the Toyota Sienna and Toyota RAV4 were not injured and remained at the scene, cooperating with investigators.
Detectives believe that excessive speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
