LANCE C. IVEY WAS BORN IN MIAMI, FLORIDA AND GREW UP IN PALM BEACH COUNTY. HE ATTENDED THE UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI AND RECEIVED HIS B.A. IN ECONOMICS AFTER SERVING IN THE UNITED STATES ARMY AS A PARATROOPER. HE WENT ON TO EARN HIS LAW DEGREE AT ST. THOMAS UNIVERSITY.
Lance C. Ivey is a nationally recognized civil trial attorney whose practice focuses on catastrophic personal injury, product liability, aviation, and wrongful death litigation. For more than three decades, he has represented individuals and families in some of the country’s most complex and high-profile cases, earning a reputation for taking on major corporations and insurance companies in pursuit of justice.
Lance has handled defective product cases throughout the United States, securing numerous multi-million-dollar verdicts and settlements against virtually every major international automobile and tire manufacturer. His practice includes cases involving automotive design and manufacturing defects, including insufficient roof strength, handling and stability defects, defective airbags, defective seat belts, and other dangerous vehicle components. He also represents clients who have suffered serious injuries or lost loved ones in aviation accidents and other catastrophic incidents.
What distinguishes Lance’s career is that his work has not only secured exceptional results for his clients, but has also led to meaningful safety improvements that continue to protect the public. Following the resolution of a major confidential seat belt defect case, an automotive manufacturer recalled more than 300,000 vehicles. In 2018, Lance’s investigation led to a nationwide recall by Volkswagen Group of America after defective door speaker trim components were found to expose occupants to sharp metal edges. Few attorneys in the United States can say their work has directly resulted in vehicle safety recalls. Lance has had the unique distinction of helping bring about two recalls involving hundreds of thousands of vehicles, changes that likely prevented additional injuries and saved lives.
Lance also represented the family of Carol Wright in the landmark Royal Park Bridge wrongful death case in 2022. In addition to obtaining what is believed to be the largest known settlement in the United States involving the death of a 79-year-old individual with no statutory survivors, the case resulted in significant reforms to Florida drawbridge operations. The resolution included enhanced criminal background checks for bridgetenders, mandatory recertification training, independent quality audits, and additional safety education designed to improve oversight and accountability. The settlement also established an annual scholarship in Carol Wright’s memory, creating a lasting legacy while helping to improve public safety for future generations.
Lance is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by The Florida Bar, a distinction earned by only a small percentage of Florida attorneys. Board Certification is The Florida Bar’s highest level of recognition for an attorney’s competence, experience, professionalism, and ethics in a particular area of practice.
Throughout his career, Lance has been recognized by his peers for his legal excellence, including selection to The Best Lawyers in America, one of the legal profession’s most respected peer-review publications honoring attorneys for outstanding professional achievement.
Beyond the courtroom, Lance is deeply committed to serving others. Just days before sitting for his Board Certification examination, he traveled to Haiti to assist victims of the devastating 2010 earthquake, demonstrating the same compassion and commitment that define his legal practice.
Lance resides in Wellington, Florida, with his wife and their four children, Hunter, Piper, Koda, and Halle.
