A two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Northwest Glades Cut Off Road and Northwest Commerce Center Drive on Monday afternoon resulted in the death of a 72-year-old woman and left her husband in critical condition.

According to the Port St. Lucie Police Department, the crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. when a 2023 Kia, driven by 24-year-old Cierra Lloyd, failed to yield the right of way to a 2011 BMW convertible traveling southbound on Glades Cut Off Road. The BMW was occupied by 74-year-old John Latowski and his wife, Joan.

The impact of the collision caused significant damage to both vehicles. Both occupants of the BMW were transported to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital, where Joan Latowski was pronounced dead. John Latowski remains in critical condition.

The driver of the Kia and her three passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were also taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Port St. Lucie police are continuing their investigation into the incident. Authorities have not indicated any signs of impairment on the part of either driver.
