It’s often said that the lifeblood of the country, and communities throughout the country are small businesses. These are traditional mom and pop stores, started from the ground up, that established roots in the neighborhood due to hard work and dedication. Troy Lowry was living that dream in Riviera Beach as the owner of Get Water Watersports.
Business was going well for the affable Lowry, who had a lot of friends in the area. However, in the early morning hours of August 16, things took a tragic turn.
Lowry was driving his golf cart over the Blue Heron Bridge when a black Mercedes Benz struck and killed him. The driver of the Mercedes fled the scene of the accident, abandoning the car at the scene of the crime. The driver has not yet been found–police are asking the public to call-in any tips regarding whereabouts or identity.
This has been a difficult loss for the community as Lowry was a well-liked person.
“Pretty easy-going guy. Every time I saw him coming down to the docks to check on the jet skis or the kayaks over there, he just had a smile and would say, ‘Hey, what’s up guys?’” said Isaac Garcia. Via WFLX.com
One of Lowry’s redeeming qualities was his selflessness. Rather than only looking out for his own interests and in building his business’ brand, Lowry helped other small businesses when he could. Fellow small business owner Chris Rodberg says he’s indebted to Lowry for this unselfishness.
“He’s a great guy. He works hard like I do. We helped each other out borrowing trucks or forklifts and so forth, and it’s a very unfortunate thing,” he said. Via VPTV.com
It will be difficult for residents who knew Lowry personally to pick up the pieces after his death.
