The fourth fatal hit-and-run in a month took place in the early morning hours of December 12 along Okeechobee Boulevard near Indian Road. A man tried to cross Okeechobee Road at the center median but was run over by a car traveling eastbound.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue pronounced the man dead at the scene.
This is becoming a little too much of a trend for certain residents, who are witnessing close calls or major accidents on a frequent basis.
“I see it kind of often. Like every week, every week and a half, I see a hit-and-run that we’re towing somewhere, whether it’s to the customer’s house or it’s back here,” said Travis Lewis, owner of local business Tows Are Us. Via WPTV.com
The identity of the man who was struck on December 12 has not yet been released, and it appears as if the search for the driver who hit him is still ongoing.
There are some thoughts about why the recent uptick might be happening now. Some believe that many tourists are visiting South Florida at this time of year to escape the cold weather in their local areas, and that this could be a cause for the increase of accidents.
