A pedestrian, whose identity and age remain undisclosed to the public, was killed in the early morning hours of February 12 as he stood in the far-left lane of southbound I-95. According to reports, he was observed standing and walking on the inside lane of the interstate before he was struck and killed by two different vehicles just before the Glades Road exit.
A 28-year-old man was behind the wheel of a 2020 white Ford utility truck, and the front of his vehicle made contact with the pedestrian.
As the pedestrian was knocked into the center lane, a 2015 gray Hyundai driven by a 36-year-old man was advancing forward. The bumper of the Hyundai hit the man as well.
The drivers of the two vehicles were not injured in the respective collisions, as both came to controlled stops on the left inside paved shoulder.
The man who was hit by the two vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident by Boca Raton Fire Rescue.
Southbound lanes were closed for seven hours on Sunday morning following the accident.
It’s not yet known what the man’s motivation was for walking and standing on the highway, as the investigation remains ongoing.
This took place near a newly constructed “Diverging Diamond” interchange that was opened to the public at the end of January.
