63-year-old pedestrian airlifted to hospital

A 63-year-old man was seriously injured just before 6 a.m. on October 10 in Hialeah. He was walking just east of the Westland Mall at the intersection of West 13th Lane and 49th Street.

The man, who has not yet been identified, was struck by a vehicle and the situation escalated from there. Responders rushed to the scene, as the man was reported to have a broken leg at minimum. Medical personnel had him airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he arrived just after 6:15 a.m.

The condition and identity of the man has not been updated at this time.

The driver who was involved in the collision did remain at the scene to speak with authorities. It’s not known at this time whether they will face charges for the events that took place.

It does not appear that the driver was hurt in the incident.
