A frightening incident occurred in Martin County on the morning of September 18 that involved the dive team, sniper team, sheriff’s office, and fire rescue.

According to police, a car was found submerged in water after veering off Southwest Pratt Whitney Road in Hungryland Trails. The driver was able to escape but was reportedly unable to communicate to Martin County Fire Rescue whether there were other people in the car with him. As a result, this triggered the necessity for other response personnel to get involved.

The situation was tricky because alligators were spotted near the submerged car, so a sniper team needed to secure the area before divers could conduct their search for other survivors.

After a thorough review of the water and the car, no other people were found.

Martin County Fire Rescue is handling the investigation. It’s unknown at this time what caused the car to careen off the road and into the water.

Lytal, Reiter, Smith, Ivey & Fronrath hopes to hear positive updates regarding the driver’s condition as this story develops. (561) 655-1990 is the number to call in the event someone you know is hurt in a car accident.
