On Monday, January 1, first responders were dispatched to a tragic collision involving a motorcycle at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Southeast Poinciana Lane. Around 6:37 p.m., Martin County Fire Rescue officials arrived at the accident scene, which involved a motorcycle and a compact sport utility vehicle.

The incident unfolded as a man in his twenties was riding the motorcycle southbound on U.S. 1, as detailed by Christine Christofek, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson. A northbound sport utility vehicle on U.S. 1 attempted to turn left onto Southeast Poinciana Lane, resulting in a collision between the motorcycle and the SUV’s passenger side. The impact caused the SUV to overturn.

Tragically, the motorcyclist lost his life at the scene, while the SUV driver was airlifted to a trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries.
