A thief made a creative entrance to a Fort Myers Family Dollar store around 5:30 a.m. on September 19. Rather than sneak in and out, the thief used their truck as a battering ram, shattering the entrance and sending glass everywhere. They exited the truck, then located and removed two safes from the store before hopping back into the truck and driving away from the store, located at 3229 Cleveland Avenue.

Authorities are reviewing security footage to get more information about who was involved in the theft. They have been able to make out a dark blue Chevrolet pickup truck from the video, which they believe has damage to the rear.

It’s unknown how much money was contained in the safes that were stolen, and it’s possible that information may not be released to the public to prevent copycats from trying to break in again.

The store was closed at the time of the crash and robbery, and no injuries were reported.
